decribes herself as a "Creative Spirit". This is well portrayed in her hand-spun, hand-dyed, wools sold in her shop. Kary's love of working with hand-spun wools from the various sheep she uses for her wools, which gives a unqiueness to each creation. Besides her "hand-spun, hand-dyed" wools, Kary's shop also has what she calls her "Buck Naked Sheep Skeins" which are pure CALIFORNIA RED wool from a sheepie named "Humvie". The color is a natural tan - with the slightest hint of red 'hairs'.

According to Kary. "I work with various tools & I create with a tactile experience in mind. Knitting, spinning, weaving, felting - the joy of wool is ever present in my work". I recently finished a scarf made from one of the beautiful handspun wools from this shop. The yarn was called "A Walk Down the Rose Garden Path". As much as I loved this yarn, and was planning on making something special for myself; I wound up making it as a Christmas gift for one of my closest friends.

Kary's main passion, which we all know, is her love of dogs. Between all of her spinning and dyeing, she is busy saving shelter dogs, and donates a lot of her profits to dog rescues and shelters. Her goodness of spirit is also evident in her involvement in her other Team, Etsy Catholic.

CreatingCottage by Renee Holtzer

As Roses are my favorite flower, not only for their beauty, but their fragnance and a Victorian time (thanks to Queen Victoria) when Roses were the symbol of a true love. The first time I saw one of CreatingCottage's pieces in a Treasury, I became an instant follower of this shop.

The work of a very talented artist, Renee Holtzer, CreatingCottage http://CreatingCottage.etsy.com is a shop of beautiful handmade roses for furniture appliques, cottage style decor and shabby chic accessories. Each item in her shop are handmade original designs in romantic pink roses. Growing up I spent many summers on Cape Cod, our house was surrounded by rambling pink "cottage roses", which I would love to admire as they crawled around the very worn wooden fence surrounding our cottage. As memories never fade, Renee's "Cottage Roses" brings back those very memorable summers every time I view one of her handmade creations.

The Creation of a Pattern

For those of us who Crochet or Knit, we are dependent on the many patterns we may use. Often we may find these patterns in books sold in a Yarn shop; online searches; or we may purchase a pattern from one of the many talented Pattern designers on Etsy (a source of all handmade items). It wasn't until I read one of the many threads in the "CrochetOriginals Team" about all what is involved in creating a pattern - I was quite impressed and had no idea of all the creativity that goes into the process from start to finish, that I wanted to share all that goes into the creation of these very intriquite patterns, we so often take advantage of. The artistic talent of these designers are similar to any artist who is about to design a work of art such as painting, jewelry designing, glass work, etc.

Crochetgal.Chevron Blanket Pattern

This is Crochetgal's thought process in just how she creates her patterns from start to finish: "Publishing patterns takes a lot of time and effort. First you have to come up with the idea. Then you start making the first prototype of the item, writing down each step along the way". Once the prototype is done, then its time to revise it and write those notes into a format that someone else can actually read. Scratches on paper really don't help at all. After Crochetgal has all the basics worked out; then its time for the pattern to be tested. This is done by "testers" (who she hires and pays extremely well), and in turn gets some very well tested patterns. After all the testing is done, and the final photo shots are done, the completed work is then assembled with everything, along with any diagrams that might be needed. At this point you can either self publish or send the pattern to various magazines for publication.

more hooks cand needles as well as at least one other line of yarn. I have chosen three patterns from her shop, which I know you will all find very intriquing and will want to try.

With my curiosity brewing, I also asked Sandy whose shop is: http://SandyshCapeCodOriginals.etsy.com, what process inspires her patterns. Her response was, "Sometimes an idea pops into my mind's eye, and sometimes I have customers and friends ask me to design something because they can't find the pattern anywhere. Once she has a specific idea in her mind, she then looks for various types of yarns and colors to help work out the design.

According to Sandy this is when she usually starts writing, trying to think how I want the finished item to look, then as I work on the actual stitches making various changes along the way. Once finished with the pattern, Sandy then trys to get product shots of the items. "I sometimes put the pattern aside and then in a few days go back and make it again and I catch a lot of the mistakes that way". Sometimes she will have people to test the patterns. Depending on what she is creating the pattern for; "if it is for my own website, then I might ask someone; but if it is for a publisher, then I don't ask anyone". Another part of the process is having people with.different skill levels to work a specific pattern so she could see how easy the pattern is to read; and sometime to see if a beginner can actually make the item.

I am sure both Crochetgal and Sandy can attest that another hard part of designing a pattern is using wording so that people will understand and having them know what they want them to do in the way of stitches, assembling the finished pieces, etc. Sandy has included some videos with her patterns, as it is just easier to show a video rather than try to put some of the techniques into words. As she says, "Technology today has made pattern writing a lot easier".

I think in my lifetime there stands three moments in which time stood still; one of those moments that becomes indelible in our minds and our souls. I am sure we can all remember exactly what we were doing that exact second when we heard the words: “Our President, John F Kennedy has been shot”; “John Lennon has just been shot in front of the Dakota, and died on the way to the hospital”; and the incident that changed the world, hearing “A plane has just hit the Twin Towers” – the day of Sept 11. It is these three tragedies that caused within me a fear, heartbreak, numbness that I will always carry with me.

Today, December 8th, marks the 30th Anniversary of that tragic evening when John Lennon, returning from a late night of recording, was gunned down in front of his home, The Dakota, with his bloodied glasses and a copy of his just released album Double Fantasy, which he had just signed for “a fan”, laying next to him. How ironic that all he ever wanted was Peace, as he sang “Give Peace a Chance”; or “Imagine” asking us to “Imagine there's no heaven, no hell below us, above us only sky, Imagine all the people living for today…” – it was all he ever asked for, only to be destroyed against all that he was asking us to believe in.

Born in Liverpool, England, on October 9, 1940 during a German attack with air sirens all around, everything had grounded to a standstill almost destroying most of Liverpool that night. It wasn’t long after that that John took up the guitar to fill the void of loneliness in his life. Although we always think of John Lennon as the fighter and the rebel of the Beatles, within, he was truly shy and very self-conscious. Never really wanting the fame that brought him to us and which ultimately took him away from us. In New York he found the quietness he was seeking, and where he retired from writing and performing; living the sheltered, peaceful life he was always seeking. It was only 3 months before his death, that a renewal of life took over and he start recording his first album in years “Double Fantasy” – I always thought it ironical as I listened to that album over and over that day, that the main song was “Starting Over” singing… “Our life together is so precious, our love still special…it’s just like Starting Over again”. It is almost like he had a premonition of what was to come.

In an interview just weeks before his meeting with John Chapman, John Lennon spoke these words: “You know..give peace a chance, not shoot people for peace. All we need is love – it’s damned hard, but I really believe it. Were not the first to say “Imagine no countries, or give peace a chance, passing it on from generation to generation”…”I’ve never claimed divinity. I’ve never claimed purity of soul. I’ve never claimed to have the answer to life. I can only put out songs and answer questions as honestly as I can, but only as honestly as I can – no more – no less”.

“You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one – I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one.” May he find the peace and tranquility in the heaven he was seeking all his life.

**I highly recommend anyone who is a true John Lennon fan, read Philip Norman’s book, “John Lennon, The Life” – you will learn the truth behind the man we all looked to for a peaceful world.

Evie the Creep

Visiting Athena’s shop, one is welcomed to Miss Millificent's Mesdemoiselles: which she describes as “one-of-a-kind handmade weird, odd and gothic art dolls with unusual and sometimes disturbing stories. These dolls are inspired by and a continuation of my artwork”. One cannot view these odd little visions without totally being taken in by their awe inspiring big eyes and not wonder what mystery lies behind each unusual doll!

I think my favorite is “Evie the Creep” (shown above), poor Evie was at one time a sweet little schoolgirl who was locked away in a basement to live a lonely existence for stealing a piece of candy. As one who has to watch the “Nightmare Before Christmas” every year with my sons, Evie reminds me so much of the character “Sally” who behind her eerry look, there exists a warm soul. Another favorite is “White Bride Winifred”, who as you read her story; you will find the recluse of a bride left at the altar due to tragic circumstances. As you browse through “MissMillificent’s” shop, you will a story for each of these unusual “artdolls”. You will also meet “Aurora Coco” who is “lovely and sad, and “Bridget the Ghost Girl”.

With her children grown, and the loss of her job, Athena discovered the art of sculpting, working with polymer clay. Working with the clay, she soon discovered that she couldactually sculpt and thus began the creation of these “gothic art dolls”, bringing to life “Miss Millificent’s Mesdemoiselles”. Perhaps her experience as a horror writer explains a little of the darkness Athena brings to each of her “Mesdemoiselles”. All the dolls clothes are also hand made from scrapes of fabric with vintage lace and trim.

Of course, when one thinks of Carol's work, the first painting that comes to one's mind are her infamous Hydrangea paintings.

Today a friend from Etsy wrote on her blog that many times things just seem to get to much. We tend to overload ourselves and then find it is time to clean house (so to speak).

These are my thoughts about life when things seem to overwhelm us:

There are many times in our lives when we have days when we feel like we just don't fit in. Life seems to much - we revolve around in circles only to wind up where we left off. You are right - we are not computers where we can just push a "delete" button - we are people with feelings, a heart, a soul. People who have friends and family that will always be there for us are what is important. Often we discover that there are those who take too much of our time and space for their own . If cleaning house and remembering those who are important in our lives, and reach out to them, we will succeed in a more positive light.

The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf!

My little Lamb from my shop : http://MagdaleneKnits.etsy.com , makes his first stage debut in the “Trial of the Big Bad Wolf”. Sponsored by the Montclair, NJ, Playhouse. In the play, the Wolf – for the first time in Nursery Rhyme history is put on trial for all his atrocities – that being, chasing Little Red Riding Hood through the woods and finally eating her grandmother; blowing down the houses of the Three Little Pigs in the hope of catching them for a good meal; the ‘Boy who Cried Wolf’; to his every waking moment of trying to capture the innocent little sheep in many of the Mother Goose’s tales. Well, enough is enough, and the various characters have decided to fight back and put “Mr. Wolf” on trial.

There at the trial you can see many of his offended characters sitting in the Gallery waiting to testify! One of which is Mrs. Shepherd, played by my daughter Kelly, holding her Baby Lamb (in his debut role!) sitting in the Courtroom Gallery, while admonishing the little shepherd who should have been watching the Baby Lamb.

Her shop is aptly named with her many “creative” pieces of jewelry; ranging from button earrings and bracelets, necklace, and her own personally designed jewelry patterns. According to Rose, she chose the name “RandomCreative”, “because I have always enjoyed making random creative projects using all different colors and materials. I enjoy beads and buttons of all kinds and am always finding new ways to work with them.”

I enjoyed viewing Rose’s shop which is a treasure trove of many unique, colorful, whimsical jewelry creations of imagination. One will find a variety of her talented use of many different beading techniques, such as, beadweaving, peyote stitch, square stitch, and her many uses of buttons in her jewelry designs.

My favorite is her “Easter Morning” bracelet, designed using a peyote stitch then embellished with Czech glass flower beads, creating what Rose calls “a creative path to the flower garden”.
Another unique feature which found in her shop are a few of her own unique patterns which she sells and can be downloaded in a pdf format to your own computer.

CreateCrochet Spring Challenge

As we are finally beginning to see the first signs of Springs, crocuses popping up, birds chirping, buds on the trees, I would be totally remiss if I did not mention a few of the beautiful Spring entries in our March Challenge. The Challenge was our team’s way of welcoming Spring with different categories: Spring – rebirth, babies, flowers, etc. - Easter – bunnies, chicks, eggs, chocolates, etc. - Artist – take any artists’s painting/work as your muse and use similar color palettes or interpret their design in your work.

So starting with our first group, Spring: Courtney's creation from her shop:

As Courtney says, she absolutely loves to crochet, – which is evident when viewing the many items in her shop featuring one of a kind hand-crocheted designs and patterns inspired by her own artistic interests.

What woman wouldn’t look stunning and sophiscated wearing this Hand Crocheted Rayon Raffia Woman’s Hat by http://theoldhooker.etsy.com/ (love this name)! I would love wearing any of the fashionable hats that are sold in this shop. How many of use throw away old sweaters or blankets; well this is one designer who has saved and recycled the yarns to crochet these very different and unique hats. As Betty says, “not another person on earth will ever have a hat, sweater, cowl or scarf like the one I just made!”

I have long been a fan of DesertCrochet’s patterns, each photographed with a beautiful little infant, which only enhances the finished product of her patterns. If you haven’t visited Rebecca’s shop yet, I highly recommend any crocheter to visit this shop: http://desertdiamond.etsy.com/, Her entry, “Princess Coming Home” - a lilac cocoon with a little hat would welcome any newborn home. I had to add this picture of my grandson and his little cousin wearing their “Monkey Hats” which Rebecca crocheted especially for them!

I couldn’t resist smiling when I saw “Yarnabee’s” two little bunnies, both a perfect size for those your little one to find in their baskets on Easter morning. Each adorable item in this shop are custom made by Alessandra, a stay-at-home mom who found a way to supplement her income with her crochet skills which she learned from her Grandma when growing up in Brazil.

Mamta, which mean’s “mother’s love”, who although she lives in Mumbai, India, has taken on the task of being our CreateCrochet team leader. She recently upgraded her shop from her very colorful crocheted flowers, to creating patterns for all of us to enjoy. Her work is exactly as she describes herself, “colorful, vibrant, unconventional, enthusiastic, and full of energy & variety!”

Although we are all artists, we come to the last part of our Spring Challenge which was to create something inspired by a favorite painting or artist.

Inspired by the impressionist painter, Monet’s “Morning on the Seine”, this absolutely beautiful shawl (poncho) is the creation by Sheila, whose shop http://sheilarharden.etsy.com/, I can't even begin to describe how beautiful this is. Button it and it's a poncho, wear it open and it's a shawl! Working with many different textures and colors, Sheila has created some beautiful pieces; and now as a stay-at-home mom, she is able to indulge her passion of creating most her own designs while experimenting with some very unique art fibers.

Since I have been very young, admiring a print of my Great Grandmother’s by the artist, William Bouguereau (which I now own), I became a passionate follower of his artwork. Many prints of which one will find hanging on my walls. My inspiration for this Victorian Scarflette, was Bouguereau’s painting “LaTricoteuse” (The knitter). My shop: http://magdaleneknits.etsy.com/, is a mixture of baby items, scarf’s, neck warmers, and infant Maryjane’s, all of which reflect my passion for all that is feminine and antique. I love using a pattern and then redesigning it to my own personal interpretation.

Finally, I wish to mention this very unique idea called a “Ponshawl”. The inspiration for this Lilac Ponshawl is Marianne of http://daisyadaycrochet.etsy.com/. The versatility of this shawl is its ability to become a cover for a mother-to-be. Marianne hopes to soon incorporate shawls which will make it possible for a mother to breast feed very discretely. A perfect gift for a Baby Shower for the mother. A visit to Marianne’s shop one will find some beautifully crocheted items such as scarf’s, hats, fingerless gloves, and more shawls. Why the name “daisyadaycrochet”? Well, you will have to read her profile to find a beautiful love story behind the title!

Who better to highlight for our March Monthly Challenge; which is to promote one of our team members; than that of our own Bbest leader, Jill and her Etsy shop: http://jillstreasurechest.etsy/. Looking at Jill’s shop, one will find a treasure trove of various items within her magical Treasure Chest. Jill’s handcrafted items include ceramics, jewelry and wood.
Her love of crafting began with the decision to make little barrettes for her young daughters, who are now grown since she has reached the status of also being a grandmother. Since her barrettes, Jill’s love of crafting has extended to designing jewelry, crocheting blankets, and making ceramics and wood signs.

Although most of you know me through my Crochet and Jewelry shops here on Etsy; once December starts, and we are all thinking of what Christmas items to put in our shops, I am busy getting ready for our annual Christmas Pageant in our Parish. I started the Pageant about 20 years ago, and it is still something I truly look forward to each year. Although I get much joy out of participating in putting the Pageant together, it is the children that make each year just a little different and a lot more enjoyable. It is also rewarding to see my daughter, Kelly, who was still in elementary school when I started the Pageant, as our Director for the past few years.

We usually begin the planning in early December, and as always, every parent wants their child to be the star of the show! Once all the main characters are chosen (Mary, Joseph, The Wisemen, Angels, Shepherds, etc.), without any hurt feelings or comments from some parents; the practices begin. Once all the parts are assigned, I then have the job of making sure each child has their costume and that it fits. This year for the first time, our little angels were only 3 and 4 yrs of age, which meant a lot of alterations! Once all the costumes are given out, my daughter takes over as Director. Somehow she has a special way with these little children; and by the end of the first practice miraculously they all seem to know their parts and when to be on stage.

The older children get the main parts, which gives the younger children an incentive to look forward to each year. In fact, little Zachary (my grandson) graduated from playing "Baby Jesus" last year to a little "toddling" Shepherd (while drinking his bottle)! I should mention that our youngest participant this year was not quite 4 weeks old, playing the "Infant Jesus." We also have a wonderful Children's Choir who do all the singing throughout the play. As with any play, once the children put on their various costumes, their whole demeanor changes. They suddenly assume the role they are portraying. A lot of credit goes not just to the Director, but to the small group of parents who dedicate themselves each year working on the Pageant. It is this team work that makes our Pageant so successful. The success is well noted as the Narrators (children from grades 5-7) begin to tell the story of the Nativity, and you look at the smiles on the faces of each parent.

Although our little angels, who I said were only 3 and 4 years old, completely steal the show; the other children are so professional, while they kneel so reverently as they portray, Mary and Joseph, from the time they are approached by the Angel Gabriel, to the birth of Jesus, and the arrival of The Three Wisemen. The final scene is the little Drummer Boy’s who walk so very slowly down the center aisle playing their drums while the choir sings ‘The Little Drummer Boy,". The most adorable thing is not only watching them, but watching the little angels singing their hearts out – “pa rum pum pum pum”. I could continue talking about the beauty of our little children in the Pageant, but the pictures tell it all.

A Tribute to John Lennon

Today, December 8th, marks the 30th Anniversary of that tragic evening when John Lennon, returning from a late night of recording, was gunned down in front of his home, The Dakota, with his bloodied glasses and a copy of his just released album Double Fantasy, which he had just signed for “a fan”, laying next to him. How ironic that all he ever wanted was Peace, as he sang “Give Peace a Chance”; or “Imagine” asking us to “Imagine there's no heaven, no hell below us, above us only sky, Imagine all the people living for today…” – it was all he ever asked for, only to be destroyed against all that he was asking us to believe in.

Born in Liverpool, England, on October 9, 1940 during a German attack with air sirens all around, everything had grounded to a standstill almost destroying most of Liverpool that night. It wasn’t long after that that John took up the guitar to fill the void of loneliness in his life. Although we always think of John Lennon as the fighter and the rebel of the Beatles, within, he was truly shy and very self-conscious. Never really wanting the fame that brought him to us and which ultimately took him away from us. In New York he found the quietness he was seeking, and where he retired from writing and performing; living the sheltered, peaceful life he was always seeking. It was only 3 months before his death, that a renewal of life took over and he start recording his first album in years “Double Fantasy” – I always thought it ironical as I listened to that album over and over that day, that the main song was “Starting Over” singing… “Our life together is so precious, our love still special…it’s just like Starting Over again”. It is almost like he had a premonition of what was to come.

1. Do you like to travel? If so, where do you most like to go or what was your most memorable trip? If you don't like travel, why not?
I truly cannot imagine anyone not wishing to travel! When I was younger, my sister and I were lucky enough to travel all across the US with our grandparents. But I must admit my favorite and most memorable trips were my visits to India. Since I have been there a few times I have made quite a few friends there and of course one very special to me. We all traveled through South India visiting many ancient Hindu temples and Churches some many centuries old. I was also lucky to be invited as a guest to 2 different schools. At one school I visited each classroom and taught them songs that children here would sing, at the other school I was the Guest of Honor and even spoke to the audience in their language, Tamil. Can’t wait to get back there!

2. What is one of your most favorite books you've ever read?
3. What is a favorite family food you like to make?
As an avid reader, at times reading 2-3 books at a time; I only read non-fiction books, preferably historical biographies. Among the many I have read, I must put “Nicholas & Alexandra” - I have a whole collection of books on Russian history and the Tsars. My other favorites are “true crimes”. I am currently reading “Columbine” truly recommend it to anyone who wishes to find the true story being this tragic day,

3. What is a favorite family food you like to make?
My family’s favorite food that they always request is spaghetti & meatballs – yes, I do make my own sauce. There friends even request that I cook enough for them also. I once made the mistake (I was in a hurry) of using jar sauce – my boys referred to it as “ghetto” sauce!

4. What do you collect?
I have a collection of miniatures which fill my miniature shelf. Also, being religious, I collect all sorts of angels which one will find all over my house. I really believe we all have our own little “guardian angels”.

Create Crochet: What Music Inspires Me

I know I have mentioned in other blogs how music is such a big part of my life. Whatever the situation, I seem to find a song that fits what is going on at that time; but when asked what song inspires me most and has gotten me through a lot of conflicts, I would have to say “Let it Be”.
At times I may be upset by something that someone said, or conflicted with one of life’s many paths that we may not always wish to travel. It seems that out of nowhere, in my head I often find the words not only just comforting, but a reminder of how short life can be. If I find myself facing a certain situation, instead of anger building or resentments, I remember that one particular line in the song, and keep repeating it to myself “Let it Be”. Maybe tomorrow I may not get a chance to say I am sorry, or even if I am hurt, I cannot hold that within me. I may shed some tears, but within my heart I know even just a little prayer can do a lot.

When I find myself in times of trouble,
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of Wisdom,
“Let it Be” “Let it Be”
There will be an answer, "Let it Be"

It is those little words of wisdom that have guided me through so much, given me the strength to look at things differently, and the courage to move on.
Ps. I even have “Let It Be” as the ringtone on my phone. So I am always reminded that there is always someone watching over me, and an answer for all that lies ahead.

I have a request for my Etsy friends, or anyone else who is interested in helping - my request is mainly, I guess, for those who make jewelry or knit or crochet. I have been asked by Montefiore Children's Hospital, which is one of the world's top-ranked pediatric hospitals, if I would like to teach beading and jewelry making with the children in their Child life Dept. Many of the children in this unit are suffering with cancer; they also treat those children who are in need kidney or heart transplants, some of whom come from various places around the world. I felt so honored that they even considered to ask me I almost cried - and of course I said yes definitely I would love to.

I just came back from my first interview and tour of the wards I will be working on. Before I can even start I need to have a complete physical, blood work, shots, etc (not so much for myself, but to make sure I have nothing that I would pass on to the children). Then I will get full security clearance and my Hospital ID badge.

So, my question is - if anyone who has extra beads, supplies, wire, etc. would you be willing to donate some to help out with a lot of what I would need to work with these children.

I will also be teaching knitting and crocheting to the children; mainly the older ones in their teens, so if anyone has any extra yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, that they are no longer using and would like to donate, please let me know. Just send me a convo through Etsy.

Since I don't watch any babies on Thursdays, I decided I would go down there every other Thurs and work with these children. The hardest part is that other times that I have worked with children like this, or at one time taught in an orphanage; it breaks my heart to leave them, I would love to take them all home with me and care for them.

It will be such a rewarding experience for me to put some smiles on these little one's faces. One little girl I met who has cancer is just 3 years old.

So again I ask if there is any item that you don't use anymore or left over beads, yarn, etc., I hope you can help.

What Inspires Me?

This week’s question was “What inspires me” when I am creating something.

For as long as I can remember music has always been a passion and very important to me. There is never a moment that there is not a song that is “floating” in my head. When my children were young, they would always laugh when I would answer a question with a song. Something I still tend to do!

So most of my inspirations are created with a song playing in my head while I am crocheting, knitting, designing jewelry or quilting. In you notice in my jewelry shop http://MagdaleneJewels.etsy.com, most of my jewelry is named after a song – to name a few: Layla, November Rain, Black Velvet, The Rose, Ruby Tuesday. Of course with the new listings I had to go back and change the titles to reflect the item, but within the description you will find the song behind my inspiration.

Could it be a coincidence then that our CreateCrochet Team “Weekly Challenge” was to create something from a song or musical artist that inspires us. When I first read about the challenge, the song “Good Day Sunshine” by the Beatles was the first that came into my head.

Your eyes represent the innocence and the brillance of the Fourth of July

The innocence of the child in wonderment at the fireworks,

The brillance of your personality blazing across the sky.

You are no long limited by the earth and it plains,

You are now are a part of the heavens.

When I see the fireworks on the Fourth of July, I will think of you,

The innocence, openness, and hopefulness of a child.

The brillance of what was, is now, and shall in the future be,

You see, you left behind three brillant sparks for us to marvel at (Leo, Maya and Travis);

and they will lead us on where you left off.

When I look at the fireworks, it is their brillance and uniqueness that catch my attention,

Crochet Question: Honing Your Craft

This week's question: How do you continue to hone your craft (crocheting!)? Books, internet, magazines? What do you do to learn more?

I started crocheting when I was about 13, when everyone at that time was wearing crocheted vests, and berets and shawls. Of course, the first stitches I learned were the sc and dc. Once I mastered those, and yes, there was a lot of ripping out stitches, there was no stopping me. I think once someone learns those basic steps they are well on their way to a world of creative crocheting.

From those early days of shawls, etc, I began making afghans. Since I love antiques and collecting them, naturally I found a book of antique afghan patterns. The terminology was a little different, but knowing those few beginning stitches I originally had learned, I was able to follow the directions, and make some very different afghans. I still use (or should I say my kids use) one of the first ones I made – so it is about 35 yrs old (the picture above). I love browsing through different books, and now look on the internet for patterns that are a little different. I am currently working on a little girl’s sweater using a pattern from 1956. I think in those days, they just took for granted that you knew what to do, because it explains each section, but no where does it explain how to put the pieces together – it is like a Chinese puzzle – all these little pieces, and I am trying every possible angle to assemble them. Hopefully it will be in my shop one day!

I do admit, as I have grown and find myself doing a lot more crocheting, I am working with a lot of different stitches I haven’t used before. My friend in India sent me some books on crochet patterns, and quilting patterns (which I do also) – truly great birthday presents, because they are both very useful. What I did with some of the crochet patterns I wasn’t familiar with – I did little practice pieces, which I save in the book where that particular pattern is – so when I do need to use that particular pattern – I have already worked it out, and am ready to take on any project. Also, if you want to take the easy route – just go into Google and type in that particular stitch - not only will you find explicit directions, plus most of them have a step by step video that you can follow. Now if they only can explain this 1956 sweater pattern!

A Tribute to Native Americans

I received a convo today from Joni Stinson, http://www.etsy.com/shop/jstinson, that my little crocheted-baby-moccasins-in-sage-0-6-mo, were included in her very special Tribute to Native Americans.

Joni started this thread (which is now on Chapter 3) inviting people to do a search of Native American or Native American Inspired items and list their favorites or to list one of their own items) and promote any item listed throughout various Etsy shops which give tribute to our first settlers in this country. The title of this great Tribute is called “Walking with the Wind”.

Joni, who is Creek-Cherokee, has given us so much history of her tribe’s customs and the plight of still so many Native Americans who live in poverty. Her jewelry is just one example of her love of heritage; these are a few examples of her beautiful Indian jewelry.

I was also thinking how befitting it is to receive this honor today when we are celebrating the many American soldiers who fought in wars throughout history to make this country what it is today. What many people may not realize is that from the beginning when the first pilgrims arrived at our shores, our survival was at the hands of Native Americans who taught the settlers how to survive. Also, how many of us realize that during the Civil and Revolutionary Wars, the Cherokee’s played a very important part in these wars fighting for the Union, along side of the American soldiers who were fighting against the South who wanted to separate and form their own union. The only way American soldiers (known as pioneers) knew how to fight was face to face combat, each side standing in opposite lines shooting at each other. The Native Americans (known as the warriors) found the white man's strategy of standing still and allowing people to shoot at them, or lob artillery shells at them quite curious. It was the Cherokee’s who taught the many soldiers the tactic of sneak attacks while hiding in trees or sneaking through the dense wooded areas, completely surprising their enemies. This tactic was one of the main reasons that the North was able to defeat the South. So let us also remember those many Cherokee warriors who gave their lives fighting to help save our country from the British, who were helping the Confederate soldiers.

Memorial of Doves

Yesterday, my daughter Kelly, my cousin Michael, and myself, attended a beautiful ceremony, for all those who past away this past year. The Memorial Service and Dove Release was sponsored by the Funeral home where my Aunt Joyce was buried from this past February. The director of the Funeral home came up with this idea in a way to honor his own mother who past away this year also; and thought it would be nice to invite others who have lost someone dear to them to join in this dedication. After a brief service inside the home, in which they had digitial photo’s of each person being honored, we then all went out onto the back lawn, where in a huge circle were heart shaped baskets, each filled with a dove. It was so beautiful to watch as we all opened the baskets at the same time, and the Doves took flight towards the heavens. I thought it was a special way to remember a loved one and wanted to share some of the moments with you in the pictures we took.

Crochet for Cancer

Since I began to start crocheting again, something I have been doing since about the age of 13, I decided to open my second shop here on Etsy, http:// MagdaleneKnits.etsy.com. From there I joined up with a crochet team, “CreateCrochet”, where I have met some very talented people, and have even learned a few extra little stitches here and there. I have made a lot of new friends on this team, as well as run into some of my Bbest friends, Julie: http://stitchesbyjulie@etsy.com and Tricia: http://LazyTCrochet@etsy.com.
Since being here for the past two months – I have already taken part in their Spring Challenge, in which I entered my little crocheted lamb. Our next Challenge is a “Wedding Challenge”, which really means I need to put my creative side forward. But nothing has been more rewarding that CreateCrochet’s, “Crochet for Cancer”, which is run by a well known cancer program, “Relay for Life”. Headed by Marianne, whose shop is http://Creationsbym2@etsy.com, she is accepting anything crocheted, and even some uncrocheted items which will benefit cancer patients. She sells these items at a booth she runs for “Relay for Life”, and all proceeds then go to the American Cancer Society.
Many of us are crocheting hats for cancer patients, of which I was surprised to receive a listing of all the colors that relate to each type of cancer. I crocheted a wool tweed hat, which is perfect for a man; and have finished two hats for woman who is suffering from cancer. The hat with the pink scalloped edging is for those suffering/or suffering from Breast Cancer; the woman’s hat with the light green edging represents those who are suffering with Lymphoma Cancer. Of course, I intend to crochet and send a lot more hats, and some scarves, as this is truly a rewarding cause of which I am proud to be a part of.
If any other Etsy members are interested in donating something crocheted, or that would be of use for a cancer patient, please convo me, and I will get you the information and instructions you will need.
Above are the three hats I have completed so far and will be off in the mail tomorrow.

A Tribute to my Niece: Tara Alamilla

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there. They may become a best friend, soul mate, lover or spouse; you just know that when you lock eyes with them for that very first time, you know at that very moment that they will affect your life now and in years to come. But then sometimes that sunshine turns towards darkness and life as we expected, begins to change. That one person, who we so willingly turned our lives over to, may not be who we thought them to be.
Unfortunately, as we see those dark clouds entering in our hearts, we bear painful and unfair truths, that will test our strength and our faith. Make everyday count and appreciate those around us, our family, our children, our friends, because you never know when God may take that away. Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance, God tests our faith in so many ways, that we have to be prepared with in our hearts and our souls to take on that strength to forgive and go forward. "Live Each Day As If It Were Your Last... Tomorrow is Not Promised."Someone once told me that “God will never give us anything we can’t handle.” Perhaps it is through my strong faith and prayer that I can hold that truth. This weekend my family was put to the test, as we learned that my niece, Tara; my cousin’s oldest daughter and a mother of three young children, was murdered by her ex-husband of whom she had only been divorced from for a few weeks. As their three little children lie sleeping in their beds, Tara breathed her last breathe at the hands of her ex-husband. A life of such promise and a love that was thought to be forever has dissipated to a life lost; three little one’s left without parents; and a family left in shock and in tears.
“The cloud burst doesn’t last all day” - right now we can’t see through the darkness; but I know that when God allows our faith to take over, we will begin to see that light come shining through. It is at that moment that we know that Tara is once again safe in the “arms of her angel” and smiling down at us, letting us know that we need to continue with our lives “Living Each Day As If It Were Our Last.”

Thank you all for your many kind words, thoughts and prayers, which I have conveyed to my cousin and our family. Please keep Tara and my family in your prayers, as we wait for the sun to rise again.

Once again I find it necessary to alert all artists here on Etsy, and elsewhere to read, beware, and to act TODAY on this important Legislation!!!! In early 2008, Diane Clancy and I wrote effortlessly on bringing the “Orphan Act” to your attention. Below is the first of a series of blogs, we both worked on at that time. On May 15, 2008, I wrote: On April 24, 2008, the Orphan Works Act was introduced into the U.S. House and Senate. In August 2008, in another blog , I wrote: Update on the "Orphan Act "I'll bet you, as I, thought this was a dead issue. Well we, DianeClancy.etsy.com and I just found out that is has been put on hold (again). In fact Congress tried 2x to push it through, and both times was held due to the fact that not enough was made known to the public of the ramifications of the Bill.

THE ORPHAN WORKS ACT:I don't know if you have seen this article or heard about this Legislation which is being considered in our Congress. It is such an important article which needs to alert all artists - it basically calls for the rights of anyone to steal the ideas, thoughts, emotional feelings that an artist brings to his work. The fact that Congress can allow such an abomination of rights needs to be dealt with through letters to our Congressmen, Legistators, Senators who expect to become President! If such an impropriety can be allowed to desecrate the ideals of today's artists, what can we expect for our tomorrows, and where does that leave the many craftsmen whose own work is an extension of themselves. A lot of credit goes to Diane Clancy "dianeclancy.etsy.com" who brought this incredible information, of the "Orphan Works Act" to the attention of those in our Forum, I would like to further extend this attached article to the other artists and craftsman, who are here at Etsy. The Orphan Works Act is under consideration again and as artists and supporters of artists, I hope you will respond!! From different artists' groups, we have heard that the new draft of Orphan Works Act of 2008 is going to be released next week. Artists and supporters who have seen it are horrified. Quote from the Illustrators' Partnership "If these proposals are enacted into law, all the work you have ever done or will do could be orphaned and exposed to commercial infringement from the moment you create it. " At least 12 artists groups are working together to help get the word out so people can get informed and then TAKE ACTION!!! Lots of links below to get informed and please at least sign the petition. Anyone anywhere in the world can sign. Again, quoting from the Illustrators' Partners " forget the spin you’ve heard from backers of this bill. This radical proposal, now pending before Congress, could cost you your past and future copyrights" This includes those of you who are creating beautiful and fun works on your blogs - they can take and use them too. All of our work is fair game.Here's a link to a site where you can sign a petition against it. Why not sign and pass it on? This is so important to all of us!!! We MUST take action! Please sign ... Some businesses want to use our work without our permission (or payment) – this has been called the Orphan Works Bill. I know I want to protect my colorful, vibrant paintings!! Please read yesterday’s post for details. My letter is below just as an example. Thank you! ~ Diane
Summary of issue: Over 85 organizations opposed the last Orphan Works bills, representing over half a million creators. Illustrators, photographers, fine artists, songwriters, musicians, and countless licensing firms all believe this bill will harm their small businesses.
My name is Diane Clancy from Greenfield, MA. I create vibrant paintings that feature color and vision to inspire and uplift people. I work both in traditional mediums and digital mediums. I also do graphic design and web design.
I sell originals of my work. But I also use my images (paintings) for prints and on merchandise. I have several online shops where people can purchase my work – both from me directly and through shops that do the printing themselves and send the merchandise and prints directly to my customers and collectors.
On some images I spend well over 100 hours to produce the original painting. To make a profit in my art business, I need to be able to use and reuse such an image over and over again to make my art business profitable. That is partly why I sell prints of these paintings and also sell these images on items such as mugs, tiles, journals, calendars and tote bags. This is how I make my money from such a painting.
As a commercial artist, I have a business plan and much of it is based on reuse of my paintings – by ME! If other businesses are able to use my images, saying that they are orphaned, I have lost much of my business and income. My paintings, my images ARE my business. I have spent much time and effort in creating them and marketing them. I need to be the one who gets the benefit of my intellectual property rights.
I want the government to protect my copyrights of my paintings … and to not make it easier for others to call my images orphaned and then make money from these paintings. I am an American micro-business, an entrepreneur – the backbone of the American economy. I need the US government to be protecting and encouraging, small creative businesses … I also think this is what is going to help turn around this economy.
Also, I am an artist living with a disability. Having this small art business is what allowed me to move off disability to be supporting myself. Please help me support myself. I know of many artists with micro-businesses who are living with disabilities. Creating and marketing our art is what allows many of us to minimize financial support from the government. To me, clearly, it is evident that is good for the economy.

CreateCrochet: 48hr Crochet Challenge

With recently opening my knit and crochet shop: http://MagdaleneKnits.etsy.com, I recently joined another team on Etsy “CreateCrochet”. Although my original shop is jewelry http://MagdaleneJewels.etsy.com, a few months ago I needed a little break from my jewelry designing. So I decided to go back to crocheting and knitting for a while. I have been doing crochet work since I was about 14 years old (I really can’t count back that far to tell you how long ago that was). It is like riding a bicycle, once you learn to maneuver balancing on those two wheels, you never forget! Well, it was like that with crocheting, as soon as I had that crochet hook in my hand, and yarn in the other, it was as if I had never stopped. I only started knitting about two years ago, so I am sure there is a lot more to learn; but I find both so relaxing. Although it may seem like cheating because with knitting and crocheting, you automatically have your pattern written out for you; while with jewelry designing, your creative side takes over, and the ideas and colors form in your head before you can create a piece of your own signature work.
Actually I started to write this blog to tell you about this weekend’s exciting venture at “CreateCrochet” – a 48 hr Challenge. The CreateCrochet Team was challenged to crochet an item with a SPRING theme within 48 hours, with such inspirations as “Sunshine”, “Bright Colors”, “Spring Begins”, “Easter” and “Passover”. The Challenge started at 8am Friday morning, so with crochet hook in hand, and the clock ticking away – two minutes, one minute – the crocheting began. With many very tired fingers and sore wrists, the contest ended this morning at 8am. I actually finished my entry yesterday, Saturday, afternoon, and listed it in my shop, under the title of 48 hr. Contest. My crochet entry was a “Little Baby Lamb. I think most of the entries managed to finish on time. Zachary as "Baby Jesus"

I have written about our annual Christmas Pageant in our Parish Church, Sacred Heart, for the past few years. I get as much enjoyment working on the Pageant even now, as much as I did when I started the Pageant in our Church 19 years ago. Although I directed it for many years, my daughter, Kelly, has taken over the lead as Director for the past 5 years. What made this year even more special was that my new little grandson, Zachary, got the lead in his first part, that of “Baby Jesus”. Even with a grandmother’s pride, I must say he was one of the best babies we have had; it was as if he knew exactly what to do on cue!

Since every parent wants their child to be the star of the show, we begin by choosing those that have participated in most of our Christmas masses throughout the year. Once all the main characters are chosen (Mary, Joseph, Wisemen, angels, etc.), Kelly begins her directing. Our little children range in age from 3 (which are the little angels) to age 12; and of course, Zachary, age 2 1/2 mos. The older children get the main parts, which gives the other children an incentive to work up to each year. We have a wonderful Children's Choir who do all the singing throughout the play. This year due to the weather and many illnesses, we managed to stage the whole production with only one practice!
Using my experience as the costumer for our local theater group, that is my main job with these children, is getting everyone fitted with a costume; with a few alterations here and there. As with any play, once the children put on their various costumes, their whole demeanor changes. They suddenly assume the role they are portraying. A lot of credit goes not just to the Director, but to the small group of parents who dedicated themselves each year working on the Pageant. They each automatically assume the various positions that they
have taken over each year. Once assembling the little angels, another for the shepherds, and still another for the Wisemen, and drummer boy and girl.

It is the team work that makes the Pageant so successful. The success is well noted as the Narrators (children grades 5-7) begin to tell the story of the Nativity, and as you look at the smiles on the faces of each parent. Although our little angels, who I said are mostly 3-4 year old's, completely steal the show; the other children are so professional, and kneel so reverently as they portray, Mary and Jesus from the time they are approached by the Angel Gabriel, to the birth of Jesus, and the arrival of the Wisemen. The final scene is the two little Drummer Girls, and the Drummer Boy who walk so very slowly down the center aisle playing their drums while the choir sings 'The Little Drummer Boy,". The most adorable thing is not only watching them, but watching the little angels singing their hearts out - pa rum pum pum pum, I could continue talking about the beauty of the children in the Pageant, but the pictures tell it all.

Honoring our Native American's

I have long written about the plight of the Native Americans and the true history of our country. We have all been indoctrinated throughout the years in our history texts and literature about how the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, MA, in 1620, and were surprised to find that this land called Amerika was already inhabited by hundreds of different American Indian tribes. We all know quite well that peaceful setting of the first Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims and Indians sharing whatever crops they managed to grow, and learning the various cultures of each group. Unfortunately, that scenario as we know it was very far from the truth. The Pilgrims landed in an unknown territory ready to take over, only to find no food or shelter; while continuing to be observed by the curious inhabitants that had already settled in Plymouth and the many surrounding areas around what we know refer to as "Cape Cod". The Pilgrims through much treachery, not only stole the hidden crops the Indians had stored away for the Springtime planting, but began a plot to cast each tribe against the other with the hope that each Native American tribe with total untrust of the other would follow through on their plan causing the first of many massacres that occured. It was during these terrible massacres that the Pilgrims would step in and acquire the lands of each tribe as they would retreat from the own settlements. This so-called peaceful "First Thanksgiving" would lead to 50 years of treacherous villainy and war, and the loss of 1,000's of lives, to begin what we come to define today as American. This is only a brief scenario of the many years of war that the Native Americans had to endure losing not only their land and families, but dignity as well. It is wonderful to see that American's are now taking responsibility for their actions, and are beginning to recognize who are true founders of America are. I for one am proud to be one of the Americans of today who feels that this honor although well deserved, is well overdo.

The Christmas Fair

Last weekend was our annual Parish Christmas Fair. I started doing the Fair when my children were very small and attended our Parish school. As they got older, and I went back to work, I took a long hiatus from crafting. I again started doing craft shows and the Sacred Heart Christmas Fair a few years ago. This particular Fair is always a three day affair. Friday, being my favorite, is when the children come in and do their own shopping. They come in dressed in their holiday finest, with their little envelopes filled with their shopping money. What I enjoy the most is seeing the little one's with their $2 (which to them could be a million dollars) and say "I want to buy something for my mommy". The invariably head for my most expensive jewelry, but I then lead them to my Christmas jewelry which I make and price just for the children to be able to buy. I ask them how much money they have to spend - usually it is between $2 - $4, so I will pick out a pair of earrings or bracelet and say "oh, this is just $2" ; their eyes just light up as I wrap the little gift which they can't wait to get home to give to their mother or sister. One little girl, Madalene, wanted to buy a pair of baby booties for her little sister. Knowing that her sister is already 2, I told her I didn't think they would fit. She replied, "they are for Monica's little baby doll", so I wrapped up a little pair of my preemie booties for her. Friday evening, dinner is served (which is so delicious) and donated from different parents, and the parents get to do their shopping. It is more fun just running into people I haven't seen in a while and catching up on what our older children are doing now. My daughter, Kelly and her newborn son, Zachary also came to help; and in the evening Zachary had his first picture with Santa! (see if you can figure out which is the real Santa!)
I must admit though as much as I love doing this one particular Fair. This year a few vendors that have been there the past few years and myself were a little disappointed in the amount of people who were selling stuff I wouldn't even be throwing away. Besides myself and my friend, who also is on Etsy, we were the only two who actually sold hand-crafted items. I miss the days when a craft fair meant just that, handmade crafts. When I first started doing this Fair many years ago, only hand-crafted items would be sold. Now these vendor come in and are literally selling right out of the boxes that they bought their items in. So in that respect, it was a little disappointing to see people being taken in by what some are calling crafts. I have noticed this being the trend in other craft shows I have done in the past few years. Well, hopefully, they will all go back to the concept of a craft fair selling hand-made crafts. Even with all that, I did manage to sell quite a few things as well as a custom order for a necklace, bracelet and earring set. I certainly didn't let the non-crafters deter from my Holiday spirit while I enjoyed selling to the little children, and catching up with old friends, and seeing my grandson having his first visit with Santa.

Zachary - 1 Month Old

As most of you all know, I have reached Grandmother status. Little Zachary arrived Oct 2, 2009 at 8:25pm, weighing 6lb 3 oz. When I first saw him right after he was born, he was so tiny and fragile. Well he has reached his 1 month old birthday, healthy, sleeping, at least in these pictures (although my daughter says he never sleeps) and gaining weight. Although my daughter lives in New Jersey, about 1 hr away, yesterday was such a beautiful day that I took a ride to go visit little Zachary and my daughter. Although you have seen his newborn picture, here are his latest pictures a few of which I took yesterday. Another in his Yankee outfit watching the World Series! and as "Charlie McCarthy" for Halloween.

Caveat Emptor "Let the Buy (or Seller) Beware"!

With the holidays quickly approaching, I thought it important to make you all aware of the many ways that fraudulent practices can affect all of us. Since most of us here at Etsy use Paypal’s services, not only for sales, but when we purchase something ourselves; I learned a very valuable lesson which I wish to share with the many Etsy buyers and shoppers.

Yesterday, I received an email from secure@onlinepaypalsecure.com which started as “Dear Paypal Inc. Account Holder, Our Online Department has recently reviewed your account, and suspect that your paypal account may have been accessed from an unauthorized computer or by a third party”. Then the email goes on to say that “because protecting the security of your account is our primary concern, we have limited access to sensitive Paypal account features.” Then it continues, “How can I restore my account access?” which was attached to a small box saying “Please click here to visit the “Resolution Center” and complete the Steps to Remove Limitations.” “Completeing all of the checklist items will automatically restore your account access.” Sincerely, Paypal Inc, Account Department.

As this happened to me a year ago when I was notified by my Bank that some foreign company had attempt to purchase items through my debit account. Their Security Department picked it up immediately as a fraudulent purchase. They immediately blocked my account, and sent me an email notifying me that my account had been locked. I had to go to my local Bank, and thankfully they refunded the erroneous purchases made to my account. I had to opened a whole new account; and then notify all my accounts that I pay online with my new information.

So as not to have this happen again, I immediately clicked on Paypal’s link to the “Resolution Center”. There I was asked to resubmit all my personal and banking information: credit card #, Social Security #, Name on the Account, Birthdate, etc.” which I did and then submitted the information back to them.

Within a few hours I received another email, this time from my Bank’s Security Office, saying that they caught Fraudulent activity within my account, and had put a lock on my debit account, and to either contact them by email, or report this to my local Bank. This morning I brought in all the emails I had received. The Bank Manager called their Security Office with the code # they sent in my email. Apparently this very official “PayPal, Inc” was a way to access all my personal information. According to the Bank’s Security Office, once this information was obtained, someone from overseas attempted to debit my account for $1700.00 Euro$. Thank goodness for the quick response from my Bank, and their immediately action to lock my account. Again, I had to reopen a whole new account with different access codes, etc.; but was completely grateful for their immediate attention to this matter, which could have possibly been a lot worse.

Please, especially at this time of year, be very careful of any sort of email that you may receive that is unsolicited. I was told that these fraudulent companies are more active and ingenious than ever in attempting to access your personal information for their benefit. If you are suspect of any sort of email like this, call your Bank immediately and then will check your account and lock it if necessary for your safety. So happy shopping and hope for lots of sales this season, and be careful of anything that doesn’t seem right.

An Inspector Calls

As most of your know by now, I have belonged to a local theatre group for about 8 years. The group, The Fort Hill Players (FHP), just celebrated its 71st year. I guess it was inevitable that I would be a part of such a successful and talented group of actors, directors, and cast members. My mother started out as a make-up artist for FHP in the early 50's; then went on to acting in a few of their productions. My daughter, Kelly, who was the director of the HS drama group for two years, and then was a part of a theatre group in college, joined the FHP about 10 years ago as an actor, stage manager, and director for many of their productions. I joined soon after as their costumer and make-up artist for all of their productions.
This season our production is "An Inspector Calls"; a very famous English murder mystery centering around the Birling family celebrating the engagement of their daughter Sheila. The Birling's are a very prominent English family in which everyone is, and could be, a suspect in the death of a young woman from one of the factories. Since the time period for this play is 1912, it was very enjoyable finding costumes for each actor representing this time period. Of course, some of it couldn't have been done without "a little help from my friends". If you notice, Inspector Goole, in his Mac and Bowler Hat; the hat was a terrific find from Judi's shop, VintageLegacyStudio: http://www.VintageLegacyStudio.etsy.com. Mrs. Birling, in her English finest, along with her string of pearls is also wearing a Vintage necklace of 3 large pearls and crystals on each side of it's chain, centered by a large pendant with a large crystal center and a large drop pearl. I was lucky to find this Necklace in Nonnie's shopo which now features many vintage items, along with her beautiful gemstone jewelry: http://www.Nonnie60.etsy.com. A little side note! The young couple whose engagement is being celebrated just before the Inspector Calls, just became engaged in real life, having met through our theatre group while actor together in "Run for Your Wife".

Meet Tinkerbelle

As most of you know by now, yesterday and last night was touch and go with little Belle. The little kitty was sick when we got her, but the Breeder said it was just because she had just been wormed. We were also told that the kitty was 7-8 weeks old; old enough to be weaned. By yesterday her situation got worse, and we rushed her to out Vet, who upon weighing her found that she was just 1 lb - and also was only 5 weeks old. He did some cultures, immediately started her on antibiotics and Albon which is used for kittens with intestinal problems. When I called the Breeder, she said the Vet should have never given her the shots and that she definitely would not make it through it night. I called the Vet, and he assured me that what he did was correct. Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. Today she is eating, back to her little animated self, and I think she might have even gained 1/2/lb. So just wanted to share the pictures I took of her today, looking like little "Tinkerbelle" about to fly off to Neverland.

The Newest Baker

Little kitty arrived today unexpectedly. My boys had told me about the Cat Show at the County Center (which is right near us). As soon as I saw these little eyes staring at me - Well, how could I resist!
They told me the kitty's name was Wendy - since that is my sister's name, I don't think she would actually want a kitten named after her. So as of yet, she does not have a name. All suggestions welcome!
Of course, my other kitty is a little jealous right now, but I am sure they will soon be best friends - hopefully!

Diane views her artwork as something to uplift and inspire other people For those familiar with her work know that her vision is to portray her artwork through her use of many vibrant colors.Glancing through the Treasuries, I am sure many of you have come across her collection of what she terms her "bubbleart" a few of which are shown above. Her work is also a creation of digital and traditional mediums, as is viewed in the pictures I have chosen "Concondrum 1; and "Light and Dark." (see below) I have also posted one of my favorites "Emma" the little kitten hidden among the flowers. According to Diane. "she feels very blessed to have the opportunity to express herself through painting. 'I love that people say my artwork enhances their lives.'"
